Why is HDPE stronger than LDPE?

The polymer chains of LDPE consist of a number of branches in comparison to HDPE. Such type of structure does not allow the chains to stack in a neat way beside each other. This reduces the intermolecular forces of attraction, making the plastic softer, more flexible, and lower in strength. This exceptional “formability” makes LDPE more useful for making rigid products like plastic bottles, buckets, bowls, etc.

When it comes to HDPE, it comprises of least number of branches of the polymer chain. HDPE stronger than LDPE This results in the linear molecules packing together, well during the process of crystallization. This makes HDPE much denser and rigid. This extra tensile strength makes HDPE find a number of uses.
